Police identify murder victim found in woods in East Austin

Austin Police say they have identified the victim in a murder investigation as Nicole Diane Coleman, 24, who was found in a wood in East Austin on New Year’s Eve.

Police, Fire, and EMS responding to a 911 tip from a passerby on Dec. 31 found a body in the woods at the 7000 block of Ed Bluestein Blvd.

The victim had suffered “obvious trauma,” though police are withholding information on the manner of death itself, “for investigative purposes.”

The Travis County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide. The only other detail released by police is that the victim was found nude.

Police asked members of the public who may have spoken recently with Nicole Coleman to call a tip line, 512-472-TIPS, or text “Tip 103” plus a message to CRIMES, or email APD Homicide at homcide.apd@austintexas.gov.

In a separate news release Wednesday, Austin Police tallied arrests for the New Year’s No Refusal initiative, which ran from December 29, 2018 through January 1, 2019. During this period, 43 arrests were made for driving while intoxicated offenses.

Eleven of these involved enhanced DWI charges, including four felony DWI for two or more prior convictions, and one felony DWI for having a child passenger.
